Healthy Gal: My Weight Loss & Lifestyle Changes!

My Weight Loss & Lifestyle Changes!

Ok, so as I have told you before in my about Healthy Gal posting, before I had kids I was always active and was able to maintain my weight. Then I had kids…haha… ladies, you know what I am going to say! Men, you have your struggles too (I promise I know). With my daughter, I gained 61 pounds during my pregnancy and developed hypothyroid (an under active thyroid that slows down your metabolism). Ugh…to say the least, I struggled for two and a half years to loose about 40 of those pounds, then I became pregnant with my son and gained those 40 pounds back! Needless to say, I was back at square one again! NOT FUN!! I was the biggest I have ever been in my life and miserable. I didn’t want to shop for clothes, go anywhere there was water (in fear I would have to wear a bathing suit), and I just felt like crud because I didn’t have any energy. I decided before I even delivered my son I was going to join Weight Watchers and when he was six weeks old, I did just that!

I began attending weekly Weight Watchers meetings and running on my treadmill at home that might I add was a Mother’s day present (haha…I was kinda hurt by that when I received it, but now I’m thankful because it made working out possible with little kids at home). My son is now five years old and I am 15 pounds less than I was before I ever had kids!

While loosing the weight was my ultimate goal when I began my journey, it is not what I am most proud to tell you today in this moment! I am most proud of myself for learning how to live a healthy lifestyle! That seems so simple, doesn’t it? But, it was the hardest, longest, and most challenging personal thing I have ever overcome.

MANY, many, many (did I say MANY?) times, I have felt like I was on an emotional, eating healthy, working out, maintaing weight, fighting off those “bad foods,” not going out to eat so much, drinking enough water, not eating too many “bad” carbs…ROLLER COASTER! Do you know what I mean? So many dang rules! At least that’s what I use to think. And you know what? I was! I would lose the weight and feel good. I would have a good exercise routine down and even look forward to exercising and then all of a sudden (when I reached my goals) I got this little voice in my head that said, “You deserve a break, you can have that dessert, eat bigger portions, you can skip that workout today.” blah, blah, blah….you k now what I am saying? Please tell me you do! You know what the problem with all that is? That one time of taking a “break” and eating the way I knew I shouldn’t be or not working out lead to two times per week, then three, and eventually every day. Guess what would happen next? Oh yeah…you got it! I gained weight back, started not having energy, felt bloated, and honestly those things made me MISERABLE!

I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I have been on that roller coaster ride! Probably(no… for sure) more times than I would like to admit! The truth is, I don’t think there is anything wrong with not working out one day or eating something that is not necessarily healthy, but the way I thought about it had to change. So, last September (actually September 21, 2011 to be exact), I decided to “get my mind right” about my lifestyle. Why? Honestly? Because I was sick of the losing, gaining, feeling bad about myself, having no energy roller coaster. I didn’t want weight to be an issue in my life anymore!

My friends all ask how I did it, what “diet” did I do to lose the weight, etc. When I tell them, they are like WHAT? Haha…kind of like they were looking for a miracle pill, food, etc. and THERE IS NO MIRACLE! IT’S A LIFESTYLE CHANGE!

I have learned so many things about living a healthy lifestyle that have helped me make better choices from day-to-day and from meal-to-meal. While I am not a professional and definitely not a dietitian, I know what has worked for me personally and I have been told this is something I should share with you guys. If I can help even just one person change their life to a healthy one and achieve their weight loss goals, I will! I promise, YOU CAN EAT HEALTHY on a BUDGET, and you can find time to exercise, and you can get your mind right!

Over the next five weeks I am going to share with you the 5 steps I have taken to change my lifestyle and lose the weight for good. I hope these steps help you achieve your goals! At the end of the 5 weeks, you will have a complete list of the 5 Steps to a Healthier Lifestyle and you will be able to come back to this posting and click on the links to each of them directly from here:

So proud of you for putting yourself out there and putting up the before picture. It had to be hard but seeing those pictures side-by-side is a testimony to what eating healthy and exercising can do. It’s always so inspiring to see real-life people that have actually lost the weight the right way. I’ve known you for almost 4 years and had I just seen the before picture somewhere, I’d never had known it was you. How crazy is that? Looking forward to your series, as always! :)

I just wanted to share my story:
I too went to weight watchers after my 2nd son was born I was 197 i vowed to never hit 200 and I lost 65 lbs in 6 mths. I was at 132, now my son is 13 so 13 yrs ago. I have had 5 more kids since then I am 10 lbs heavier but still 142 is not a bad weight. I am
5′ 6″ 1/2. I loved weight watchers it worked great for me you just have to be committed to it focus on your outcome. I went to weight watches for 4 yrs and I quit going cause I was pregnant with my 3rd child my daughter and well the babies just keep coming after that all planned but I maintained my weight regardless people say wow you have 7 kids but its probably the kids that keep my weight down lol.
christy 130 lbs wow that is so great you look great and feel great huh. when I lost my weight I lost several ailments due to it. A thinner healthier body has helped in a lot of ways. thanks to weight watchers they were a huge eye opener to a heathier life style.

Thank you so much! It has been a lot of learning, hard work and dedication to myself above all others, but I truly believe we can’t properly take care of others if we don’t take care of ourselves first.

Thank you for your kind words!
