Meet Healthy Gal!

I am soooo excited to FINALLY introduce you to “Healthy Gal.” It’s a wonderful feeling to see an idea in my head come to reality with a lot of hard work and determination!

Let me explain “Healthy Gal.” Ok, so before I had kids I was always active and was able to maintain my weight. Then I had kids…haha… ladies, you know what I am going to say! Men, you have your struggles too (I promise I know). With my daughter, I gained 61 pounds during my pregnancy and developed hypothyroid (an under active thyroid that slows down your metabolism). Ugh…to say the least, I struggled for two and a half years to loose about 40 of those pounds, then I became pregnant with my son and gained those 40 pounds back! Needless to say, I was back at square one again! NOT FUN!! I was the biggest I have ever been in my life and miserable. I didn’t want to shop for clothes, go anywhere there was water (in fear I would have to wear a bathing suit), and I just felt like crud because I didn’t have any energy. I decided before I even delivered my son I was going to join Weight Watchers and when he was six weeks old, I did just that!

I began attending weekly Weight Watchers meetings and running on my treadmill at home. My son is now three years old and I am 6 pounds less than I was before I ever had kids. While loosing the weight was my ultimate goal when I began my journey, it is not what I am most proud to tell you today in this moment! I am most proud of myself for learning how to live a healthy lifestyle! That seems so simple, doesn’t it? But, it was the hardest, longest, and most challenging personal thing I have ever overcome.

I have learned so many wonderful things about living a healthy lifestyle that have helped me make better choices from day-to-day and from meal-to-meal. While I am not a professional and definitely not a dietitian, I know what has worked for me personally and I wanted a place where I could share my thoughts, struggles, frugal healthy eating ideas, and most importantly….I wanted a place where I could show my readers that YOU CAN EAT HEALTHY on a BUDGET!

Healthy Gal will be an ongoing series that will include frugal meal ideas, excercise ideas, and a platform for you to share your own ideas and struggles with all the lovely, supportive, and enocouraging readers we have here on Coupon Gal. Let’s face it, it’s not easy, but together we can do anything!

My hope is you will find some piece of information from Healthy Gal that will help you in your own journey. If you ever have an idea you would like to share, I am all ears and would love to have guest writers! You will find a link to Healthy Gal on the bottom navigation bar and a button to your right that you can easily click on for quick reference!

One of the best diet changes I have ever made that helped me lose 15 lbs. and maintain a healthy weight without routine exercise (which I know is important) is that I try to eat only fruit until noon every day and of course drink only water. It has really helped me even though it is hard for me to eat fruit sometimes I try to wait until noon (sometimes I don’t make it) to eat foods that are harder on the digestive system. Another important thing that I learned from the book, Fit For Life, by Harvey Diamond is to never combine fruit with any other foods (I wait at least 3 hours after eating other foods before having fruit). These two tips have made a big difference for me, and now if I could only get in some daily exercise I can imagine how I will feel even better with more energy!

I’m so excited about this. I developed hypothryroidism with my second pregnancy. He’s 7 months and I still have 15 pounds to loose. It’s such a struggle. I’ve considered WW, but breastfeed, so not sure if it’s worth it right now or now.

Thank you so much, this is an awesome idea!! I started couponing less than a year ago, and I am thrilled at how much money we save each month on groceries. My only complaint is that many of the deals I get are not the healthiest of foods lol!! I have been looking for a way to get great deals and also eat healthier. This sounds like the perfect program!

Like you, I grew up playing sports and was always thin, never had any concerns about my weight. I gained 70 lbs with my first pregnancy, but I lost it all fairly quickly after my son was born. My next 2 pregnancies, however, really took a toll on me. I gained the same about with both my girls and never really lost the majority of the weight I gained. Now that my “baby” is 5, I have realized that I need to do something to get my old self back. I am sick of feeling tired all the time and want to get back to enjoying sports (and not cringing every time I put on a swimsuit lol!!)

My story is about the same as Coupon Gals, except I didn’t lose the weight. I am now expecting my 8th child in Oct. I am in direct sales and my husband is a Louisiana school teacher, thus we need to save where we can. I started couponing recently and am glad I found you. I can not wait to see what you’ll be posting. Thanks for being real!

I am so excited about Healthy Gal! I just started following the Weight Watchers plan at home on my own almost five weeks ago and I’m down 9 pounds. It’s nice to know others have been through the same thing and I can’t wait to read your tips, advise, recipes, etc. Thanks for sharing!

I am SO excited to read your posts on this. I would love more frugal meal ideas and learn how to eat healthier on a budget. This is also something I struggle with and love how open you are to share your journey. To be honest, the main thing right now that stops me from exercising like I was is my blog, which can really eat up my time! Gotta find that balance…

I am thrilled about this! Your story sounds just like my story. I, too, gained 60 lbs with my first, got almost all of it off after 3 years, then put most (thankfully not all) of it BACK on with my second. After having Josie (my second) I immediately went back to WW and started running. I took off 30 lbs in the first year. Since then I have been stuck. Here I am running 10K’s and training for a half marathon and I am carrying around this extra fluff. It’s time to lose this extra 20-30 lbs! I have been struggling to balance my dedication to get my family out of debt and my need for healthy low calorie food. I am so excited to see you blend these 2 goals of mine together! Can’t wait to hear more from Hungry Gal!
